Frequently Asked Questions about Children's Church at First United Methodist Church, Rolla
Why do we have Children's Church?
All children develop differently, and each one is special to God!
While we encourage families to worship together, we recognize that sometimes children
are not ready to experience worship in the same way as the adult congregation.
For children who are too old for the nursery, but not quite ready for the full
worship experience, we offer Children's Church as an alternative.
What are the ages of the children in Children's Church?
Children's Church is for children in Preschool through Fourth Grades, and it meets in Room 304. Occasionally, we find in advantageous to split the group into preschool through kindergarten, and first through fourth grades.
What if my child is too young or too old for Children's Church?
Children three and under may be cared for in the nursery, or parents may choose to keep these little ones with them during worship. There is a "cry room" located to the east of the balcony for parents and their littlest children to use. Children in Fifth grade and up are expected to remain in the worship service unless they are scheduled to serve as a youth volunteer.
What happens during Children's Church?
Following the children's time during the 10:50 am worship, children are invited to leave the
sanctuary to go to Children's Church. We use a variety of programming to maintain the children's interest.
Music is often incorporated into the program.
In Children's Church, the students enjoy a story, a simple craft or coloring page, and games are used also.
Occasionally, an appropriate video, popcorn, and punch are offered as a special treat. Children
are expected to maintain appropriate standards of behavior during the Children's Church time by
following The Golden Rule: Treat others as you would like to be treated. Preschool children must
be picked up in the classroom at the conclusion of worship. Elementary students may wait in the room
to meet their parents, or they may be dismissed from classroom at the conclusion of the worship service.
Please make sure your child knows where to meet you!
Why isn't Children's Church like Sunday School?
The Education Team and the Worship Team recognize that not all children learn in the same way.
By presenting Christian truths in different ways – Sunday School, Children's Moments in worship,
and Children's Church – we hope to make a difference in the heart of every child who comes
through the doors of the church.
